Martha E. Rich, D.M.D

Dr. Rich received her B.S. degree from Boise State University in 1978 and her D.M.D. degree from Oregon Health Sciences University in 1981. Upon graduation from dental school, Dr. Rich wanted to be very sure that she learned as much as possible about temporomandibular joint disorders, chronic headache pain, and occlusion (bites). She has attended hundreds of hours of continuing education courses on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of TMJ disorders, and has actively sought out new information on complimentary treatments including massage therapy, physical therapy, acupuncture, craniosacral therapy, and chiropractics. In 1996 she obtained her mastership from the International College of Craniomandibular Orthopedics and has presented papers from original research and lectured both nationally and internationally on these topics.

Dr. Rich was an associate professor of Fixed Prosthodontics at OHSU School of Dentistry from 1984-1991. In addition to teaching in the laboratories and clinics, she diagnosed and treated complicated occlusion cases for other faculty members and students.

In the mid 90s, Dr. Rich became interested in sleep apnea and airway
disorders. She is a member of the Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and works in conjunction with other physicians and sleep practitioners to help people with sleep airway problems.

Dr. Rich has also been interested in combining her skills in functional and neuromuscular dentistry with the growing field of cosmetic dentistry. She is a graduate of the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies and has also furthered her education in the field of laser dentistry. She is excited by the technological advances that have made dentistry more conservative and more comfortable for her clients.

Dr. Rich has been in private practice in downtown Portland since 1981. She has a passion for helping people to become healthier and empowering her clients to make healthier choices for themselves. She is married and enjoys spending time with her husband, her dogs, and her extended family.

Soheila Sabahi, R.D.H

Dental Hygienist

Soheila Sabahi received her Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene in 1989 from Clark College in Vancouver, Washington. Since then she has taken extensive continuing education coursework to expand her skills in general hygiene and periodontal treatment. Most recently she has received certifications from the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies in Evolutionary Hygiene and has also received her certification in laser periodontal treatment.

Soheila has been working with Dr. Rich since 1993. During that time, she has developed a comprehensive hygiene program designed to meet the individual needs of our clients. By listening and understanding the unique circumstances of each client’s health and lifestyle, Soheila helps people discover the most effective homecare tools, and helps them to understand the role of dental health in relation to the rest of the body.

Barbara Sage, L.M.T.

Neuromuscular Massage Therapist

Barbara Sage graduated from the Oregon School of Massage in 1992. Since then, much of her continuing education has focused on the St. John Method of Neuromuscular Therapy, which she incorporates in relieving the pain and muscle tension of those clients who have been diagnosed with temporomandibular joint disorders.

Barbara has been working together with Dr. Rich since 1994 and is an integral part of the ongoing treatment of those clients who have TMJ disorders or other types of neuromuscular pain.
